We are thrilled to announce that the ground-breaking app of Richard Dawkins’ and Dave McKean’s The Magic of Reality for iPad won the Publishing Innovation Award for best non-fiction book app at the 2012 Digital Book World Conference in New York.

It is the mission of the PIAs “to highlight excellent publishers and authors, encourage new thinking and improve the reading experience in the digital age”. There was intense competition for this award with hundreds of entries from publishers around the world – so winning in this hotly-contested category is a tremendous achievement.

Richard DawkinsRichard Dawkins first catapulted to fame with his iconic book The Selfish Gene, which he followed with a string of bestselling books, including the phenomenal The God Delusion. His most recent work, The Greatest Show on Earth, was a number-one bestseller. Dawkins is a fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Society of Literature, and has won numerous awards. He was a professor at Oxford University until 2008 and he remains a fellow of New College. He has also written and presented several television documentaries, including The Genius of Charles Darwin in 2008 and Faith School Menace in 2010.

Dave McKeanDave McKean has illustrated and designed many award-winning books and graphic novels by Ray Bradbury, S.F. Said, David Almond, Heston Blumenthal, John Cale, Stephen King and Neil Gaiman, for whom he illustrated Coraline and The Graveyard Book, which won the Newbery and Carnegie Medal. His self-penned Cages received many awards for best graphic novel. He has created hundreds of album, comic and book covers, and has designed characters for two of the Harry Potter films. He has also directed two feature films, MirrorMask and Luna.
